What is the Rubik's Cube?

The Rubik's Cube is a 3D mechanical puzzle. It was invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and architecture professor Ernő Rubik. By January 2009, 350 million cubes had been sold worldwide, making it the best-selling puzzle game globally and widely regarded as the best-selling game in the world.

In a classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces is covered with nine stickers in six colors (traditionally white, red, yellow, green, blue, and orange). A rotating mechanism allows each face to turn independently from the others, causing the colors to become scrambled. To solve the puzzle, each face of the cube must consist of stickers of the same color. Various other puzzles have been produced with a different number of stickers, not all by Rubik. The original 3×3×3 version of the cube celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2010.
